Departmental Recruitment and Public Relations

I have written many brochures for university departments to help recruit undergraduate and graduate students and to inform people about the interesting research, educational, and outreach activities of the department. Here is an excerpt from one I wrote for the Texas A&M Entomology Department:

Caught up in the Patterns of Life

Believe it or not, 95 percent of insects are valuable to us. They provide us with products such as silk and honey. They pollinate many of the fruits and vegetables we eat. They are used to discover medical and biological breakthroughs important to humans. The billions of insects that live in the soil keep it aerated and fertile. The other 5 percent of insects are considered harmful. They can destroy our crops, animals and possessions; transmit diseases to us; and just plain annoy us.
